About the Wine: Although the Bordelais would love us to forget how they use Shiraz to “lift” their Cabernet, Shiraz is a classic and perfect blending partner for Cab Sauv.   Ella Marie is a prime example, demonstrating density of Cabernet with the lovely round texture of Syrah. Andy described the vintage as difficult requiring him “to resort to blending, hence the addition of some Mourvèdre rather than Merlot.” Ella Marie was named after Andy mum.
About the Farm and Winemaker A well-known personality in the cork-dork circles, Andy Roediger is a polymer scientist with a wine obsession. Some like to think Andy is a Cape Wine Master with a plastics issue. Either way, here is a man who can organize a true anorak tasting like no one else; Finger Lakes Riesling, check – Gruener Veltilner, check! No just a great presenter and scholar of wine, we think Andy is wonderful and poetic winemaker as well. When he’s not making wine or plastics, Andy travels the vineyards of the world to understand and learn from their diversity.
What we think (why we picked it) Boschheim is ethereal, a true product of passion. It’s completely unknown, even to people who know Andy. It’s a lovely wine without an ego price point. And there were only 1000 bottles made.
Worse Pairing Idea Do not pair Ella Marie with Tripe.
Region and Soils:    Comes from various parcels of grapes from the Helderberg region; mostly decomposed Table Mountain sandstone with “koffieklip” and clay.
Pricing/Value: R 70 per bottle – R 420 per case of 6
